The EngineerVault is a preparation tool specifically designed with early-career engineers in mind.

Our vault of questions is tailored to help YOU succeed in your graduate, undergraduate, or apprenticeship scheme interview.

Who are we?

EngineerVault was founded in 2026 by two aerospace engineers who both did an engineering undergraduate placement and graduate scheme.

 

We experienced the difficulty of landing that first industry job, faced rejection many times, and recognised how much preparation is required beyond what universities typically offer.

EngineerVault was created to help aspiring engineers succeed and stand out during the application and interview stages of any industry job. We want to give YOU a head start in your own employment journey by utilising our knowledge and experience of the application and interview process.

Example question from the Vault

An aircraft wing is made using an external layer of aluminium tightly bonded to an internal layer of steel. As the wing deflects during flight, which material (aluminium or steel) will experience the greater stress and why?
Hint 2
If 2 materials are tightly bonded they will automatically have the same deflection
Answer
Steel has more stress than aluminium. As they are both tightly bonded they will have the exact same deflection value. The Young’s modulus of steel is 3x that of aluminium, therefore, using the equation E=𝜎/ℇ, it can be deduced that steel’s stress is 3x that of aluminium’s.
Interview Tip
This is a problem solving question, so reasoning is heavily assessed. Basic knowledge of equations and physics is crucial to an answer. The assumptions show your logical thinking and will be possibly more important than the answer for the interviewer.
